About Me
As a dedicated legal professional with a strong connection to the Waipa community, Jamie practices in the litigation team at Edmonds Judd. Having grown up around Te Awamutu and Cambridge, Jamie went on to complete his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Waikato. He was admitted to the bar in 2024.
The challenge of an unusual legal matter is one that Jamie relishes. He is always keen to assist clients in matters that require creative solutions and thinking outside the box. Jamie feels at home in the courtroom but also acknowledges that winding up in front of a judge is not usually going to be the ideal scenario for clients. He therefore prefers to exhaust all other options in order to get the best outcome possible for the client, within the circumstances. Family Law is an area that Jamie greatly enjoys, especially advising clients about relationship property matters and applications under the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act 1988.
Jamie is also passionate about justice for people in the community, which led him to working at Community Law Waikato and the Hamilton Police Prosecutions Service. These experiences have provided him with invaluable insight into the legal needs of our community and the importance of accessible legal services. He looks forward to the firm’s regular sessions at the Te Awamutu Citizens Advice Bureau to help deliver free legal advice to locals. He also boasts a wide professional network from a range of different legal areas, and will usually be able to recommend a colleague if your legal matter falls outside of the firm’s expertise.
Prior to his legal career, Jamie worked in England as a tour guide, living in the vibrant community of Clapham, London. Living overseas in the United Kingdom and Germany has led to Jamie’s interest in comparative law; the study of differences and similarities between the legal systems of different countries. He enjoys assisting clients by researching the implications of legal documents from other jurisdictions.
Outside of law, Jamie enjoys spending time with his family and working through their collection of books. He is an avid supporter of his beloved Everton Football Club.
In his short time in law, Jamie has found the following experiences to be particularly rewarding:
- Negotiating longer occupational rights with individuals and trustees to help our clients feel more comfortable entering relationship property agreements
- Advising clients about protecting their intellectual property rights
- Providing reassuring information to clients going through the Family Court after a loved one has lost capacity
- Finding the perfect case to demonstrate the invalidity of a foreign ante-nuptial agreement to protect our client’s interests
- Getting out of the office for site visits, if the circumstances require
- Assisting other teams at Edmonds Judd with his well-honed research skills
- Devoting time and energy into helping the next generation of lawyers through their legal studies at Te Piringa Faculty of Law – University of Waikato
